Program Areas

Fiscal Sponsorship

Fiscal sponsorship will provide an immediate pathway for new and emerging initiatives led by BIPOC within the food justice system to receive funding. We also hope to offer additional management services to our members. This will welcome more BIPOC into movement spaces by seeking to repair historic inequities.

Mutual Learning

Together, participants will find a home for mutual learning through live, online, convenings that center the needs of our Black and Indigenous human-siblings organizing for better food systems. The participants will draw from perspectives in philanthropic, community organizing, and equity frameworks and apply them to their own contexts.

Research

Unity Collective seeks to deepen empirical knowledge on how animal protection movements are funded, through an equity lens. The organization grew from relationships built within Apex Advocacy’s Global Majority Caucus, and it arose in response to the direct experiences of Caucus members. Caucus members are too familiar with the dilemma of the underfunding of their efforts, as reported in 2021 by Encompass Movement.

Unity Collective embraces concepts drawn from anticolonial, Indigenous science, as well as from anti-racist theorists in the field of critical animal studies.
